With the upcoming election for NEC woman's seat , I was delighted to see that Jane Doolan is running. And in my humble opinion there is no one better suited to the task . I say this through my own personal experience . Four years ago , struggling with a work related issue I sought advice and guidance from my local Islington branch. And although long from resolution four years later coupled with severe depression and anxiety and mental health breakdown , Jane Doolan is still there by my side battling for the right outcome, I'm resolved to the fact that outcome may never come to fruition , but that will not be due to representation from unison . I do not feel any member fully appreciates the hours of paperwork, research, preparation that reps put in to ensure the rights and members voices are heard . No one sees the reassuring look , or hug when things become to much and your overwhelmed by all going on around you. No body sees the acts of kindness and support from the Islington branch . Why because all at Islington branch do not feel they need to make such caring acts public , this is because all they do in representing members at Islington is seen as their job , I personally assure you it's not , it goes beyond that . I can honestly say without Islington unisons support especially Jane as my rep I wouldn't be here today. In December the acts of my employer and their decisions caused a mental health breakdown and an attempt to end my life. Without the love and support of family and friends coupled with the unwavering support of Jane Doolan and all at Islington branch I survived . I have a long way to go to reach full health , and a very long way to go before resolution if any is reached . But the one thing I am 100% sure of is that Jane Doolan will use every resource, knowledge and support network to try and ensure an end to all of my work based issues . With the above in mind one question remains if this is the level of support , guidance and care at local level , what possibilities are available at national level ? My answer would be simple a voice for all members , and a positive contribution toward change for the better of all unison members concerned , regardless of job role pay scale or sector . Because an issue that affects one member or one hundred members , will meet with determination , diligence , empathy , and the need to see positive outcomes for all. I'm proud to be a Islington unison member , I'm honoured to have Jane as my rep and I'm privileged to be able to call her a friend. Good luck jane in the upcoming elections you have my vote !
